Unfortunately, many patients suffering from back pain have experienced both the constant pain brought on by their affliction, and the emotional pain of undergoing a failed back surgery that had no positive effects on their livelihood. Many of these patients have simply given up hope and decide to live with their pain just so they don’t have to be let down again by the untrue promises of another failed procedure. They carry around the physical scar from the past surgery as a symbolic reminder of this disappointment, and they don’t want another one. Thankfully for dismayed patients, Seyed M. Rezaian, M.D., Ph.D., F.R.C.S., F.I.C.S. of the California Orthopedic Medical Clinic is able to perform a type of laser back surgery that is both minimally-invasive, and results in minimal scarring.
Called the Universal Endoscopic Discectomy (UED), this procedure uses a tiny, 1/10th of an inch incision to treat only the damaged or compressed part of a disk in the spine. This procedure is commonly used as a Spinal Stenosis treatment, and is also extremely useful in the treatment of herniated disks. When an independent third party survey of patients that had undergone the UED procedure, it was found that 90 percent of all patients were able to return to the job that their pain was interfering with. What’s even more astounding is that two thirds of those patients were able to do so without the assistance of painkillers. It is important that patients realize how attainable a pain-free future is with Dr. Rezaian and the UED procedure.
